The Observer Building is back on the market with planning approved for 49 “stylish loft apartments” with 0 affordable units. The asking price is £1.5m and the agents have already received and are considering options.
There is a chance that the building could be rescued and brought into community ownership, with the vision to revive and protect the vibrant community space and events programme, and at the same time provide long-term genuinely affordable housing and creative workspace in the remainder of the building.
Time is tight for this vision to be realised and for it to have any chance we need to be organised and ready, now.
So far this effort is being driven by the White Rock Neighbourhood Ventures, but it will need a committed, community wide effort to take it on.
